Summary

About the place: Açailândia is an important city and municipality located in the western part of the Brazilian state of Maranhão. Established during the construction of the Belém-Brasília highway and along the Carajás railway, it has grown into a key industrial and agricultural center in the region.

Flag Description: The flag consists of three vertical stripes: red on the hoist side (left from the observer's view), white in the center, and black on the fly side (right from the observer's view). In the middle of the white stripe is the municipal emblem. It features a circular shield bordered by a yellow ring, with its left half displaying an açaí palm tree against a blue sky over green ground, and its right white half featuring a gearwheel integrated with a large capital letter 'A'. The shield is flanked by two green branches tied at the bottom with a white ribbon bearing the inscription 'AÇAILÂNDIA - MA' and the date '06-06-81' underneath.

Symbolism: The vertical stripes represent the strength, peace, and determination of the population. The central emblem symbolizes the natural wealth and history of the municipality through the açaí palm (from which the city takes its name) alongside industrial and economic progress represented by the gear and the letter 'A'. The date June 6, 1981, marks the official creation of the municipality.
