Summary

About the place: Alta Gracia is a historic city and the administrative seat of the Santa María Department in Córdoba Province, Argentina, situated at the foothills of the Sierras Chicas about 36 km southwest of Córdoba. It is renowned for its well-preserved 17th-century Jesuit Estancia (a UNESCO World Heritage site) and for being the childhood home of Ernesto 'Che' Guevara, now preserved as a museum.

Flag Description: A rectangular flag with an aspect ratio of approximately 2:3, divided vertically into two equal stripes of white at the hoist and sky blue at the fly. Centered in the white stripe is a stylized golden-ochre sun emblem with a ring-shaped hollow core, emitting 32 rays alternating between 16 straight and 16 flaming rays. Beneath the sun are two upward-curving green laurel branches with golden joints arranged symmetrically to form a semi-wreath.

Symbolism: The combination of white and sky blue reflects Argentine and provincial patriotic traditions, symbolizing peace, purity, liberty, and the sky. The stylized radiant sun evokes the May Sun (Sol de Mayo) as well as the city's profound Jesuit heritage (radiant halo symbolism of the Jesuit IHS monogram), while the laurel semi-wreath beneath it represents civic victory, glory, and honour.
