Summary

About the place: Backnang is a town in the German state of Baden-Württemberg, located approximately 30 km northeast of Stuttgart in the Rems-Murr district. Situated along the Murr River, the town has a rich history as a traditional industrial and leather-manufacturing center.

Flag Description: The flag consists of a horizontal bicolour divided into two equal stripes: blue on top and yellow on the bottom. Placed in the centre is the town's coat of arms, featuring a split shield. The left side from the viewer's perspective (heraldic dexter) shows three black stag antlers stacked vertically on a silver (white) field. The right side from the viewer's perspective (heraldic sinister) shows a blue globus cruciger with a gold cross and gold band on a black field.

Symbolism: The flag colors (blue and yellow) are derived from the town's coat of arms. The black stag antlers on a silver field on the heraldic dexter side represent the historic allegiance to Württemberg. The blue globus cruciger with a gold cross on the heraldic sinister side symbolizes the Augustinian monastery in Backnang, founded by the Margraves of Baden, which held the status of an Imperial Provostry.
