Summary

About the place: Bánov is a Moravian municipality in the Uherské Hradiště District within the Zlín Region of the Czech Republic, situated at the foothills of the White Carpathians in the Moravian Slovakia region, southeast of Uherský Brod. First recorded in the Chronica Boemorum by Cosmas in 1091, it has a rich history as an ancient fortress and market town.

Flag Description: The flag consists of a hoist section one-third of the flag's length divided into eight alternating horizontal stripes of red and white, and a red fly section (two-thirds of the length) charged with a white rooster with yellow armament walking towards the fly. The ratio of width to length is 2:3.

Symbolism: The flag is directly derived from the municipal coat of arms, which has roots in 16th-century municipal seals following Bánov's elevation to a market town in 1570. In heraldry, the rooster signifies vigilance, courage, and dawn, alluding to the strategic defensive and guard role of the historic local stronghold near the Moravian-Hungarian border. The eight alternating red and white stripes at the hoist reflect the bordure and primary heraldic tinctures (gules and argent) of the municipal coat of arms.
