Summary

About the place: Barabás is a border village in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County in eastern Hungary, located in the Northern Great Plain region near the Ukrainian border.

Flag Description: The flag consists of a vertical white field bordered on all edges by alternating red and green triangles (a traditional Hungarian wolf-tooth border). In the center of the flag is the municipal coat of arms. The shield is divided horizontally and party per pale in the lower section. The upper blue field shows the Agnus Dei (Paschal Lamb) in silver with a golden halo, standing on a green hill and holding a flag staff with a red cross on a white banner; it is flanked by a golden sun with a face on the left (viewer's perspective) and a silver crescent on the right. The lower section features a green apple tree with red apples on a gold field on the left, and green grapevine with golden grapes on a red field on the right. Below the shield is a blue ribbon bearing the golden inscriptions '1288', 'BARABÁS', and '2002'.

Symbolism: The white field bordered by red and green triangles incorporates the traditional Hungarian national colors. The Paschal Lamb (Agnus Dei), sun, and crescent moon in the upper portion represent Christian faith and historical heritage. The apple tree and grapevine in the lower section symbolize the local agricultural tradition, particularly fruit growing and viticulture. The year 1288 on the banner marks the first written mention of the village, while 2002 refers to the modern adoption of the symbols.
