Summary

About the place: Barntrup is a town in the district of Lippe, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located in the Weser Uplands hill country in the eastern part of the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region.

Flag Description: The flag consists of two horizontal stripes, red on top and yellow on the bottom. On the hoist side, spanning both stripes, is the town's coat of arms. The shield is party per pale: on the viewer's left (heraldic dexter) in a yellow field is a dimidiated red eight-pointed star, and on the viewer's right (heraldic sinister) in a white field is a dimidiated red five-petaled Lippe rose with a yellow center and yellow sepals. The aspect ratio is 3:5.

Symbolism: Red and yellow are the traditional colors of Lippe. The eight-pointed red star originates from the coat of arms of the Counts of Schwalenberg, who founded Barntrup. The red rose is the classic emblem of the House of Lippe. Combining the two halves represents the historical evolution and governance of the town.
