Summary

About the place: Beregsurány is a village located in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county in the Northern Great Plain region of eastern Hungary, right on the border with Ukraine.

Flag Description: The flag consists of a white field bordered all around with alternating red and green triangles (flammulet border). Located on the hoist side is the municipal coat of arms. The shield is divided horizontally, with the lower half split vertically. The upper blue field shows a silver unicorn with golden mane and tail on a green hill, pierced by an arrow and standing above a wheel, flanked by a golden sun and a silver crescent moon in the upper corners. The lower half is party per pale: the left red field features a green oak tree with golden acorns, and the right green field displays a silver stag's head with golden antlers and a golden crown. Below the shield is a blue ribbon bearing the text '1289 *BEREGSURÁNY* 2002'.

Symbolism: The white field with a red-and-green triangle border reflects traditional Hungarian national colors. The municipal coat of arms incorporates historical and noble heraldic symbols: the unicorn pierced by an arrow, accompanied by the sun and moon, references the historic Bay family; the oak tree symbolizes the local nature and forests; and the stag's head represents the area's rich wildlife and hunting heritage. The blue scroll marks the first written mention of the village (1289) and the adoption year of the current symbols (2002).
