Summary

About the place: Berlin is the capital and largest city of Germany, as well as one of its federal states, located in northeastern Germany along the Spree and Havel rivers.

Flag Description: The flag consists of a horizontal triband with a proportion of 3:5, featuring red, white, and red stripes in a 1:3:1 width ratio. Placed slightly off-center to the left (towards the hoist) in the central white stripe is a black upright bear with red tongue and red claws, facing left from the viewer's perspective (heraldic right).

Symbolism: The red and white colors recall the historic colors of Brandenburg and the Hanseatic League. The bear is the traditional heraldic canting symbol of the city used since the Middle Ages, referring to the city's name.
