Summary
About the place: Blovice is a town in the Plzeň-South District in the Plzeň Region of the Czech Republic, situated about 25 km southeast of Plzeň on the Úslava River. It serves as a regional municipal and administrative center of southern Plzeňsko.
Flag Description: A blue field; in the center, a detached white ashlar wall with battlements, an open gateway with yellow gate doors, and a black raised portcullis. Rising behind the wall are three embattled towers, the middle one taller, each pierced with two black windows side by side and capped with a red tented roof topped with a yellow crosslet. The roof of the central tower is flanked by a crescent with horns pointing toward the hoist and a six-pointed star, both yellow. The ratio of width to length is 2:3.
Symbolism: The flag of Blovice (granted on 27 May 2008 by Decision No. 32 of the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic) is an armorial banner derived from the historic municipal coat of arms dating back to around 1465. The fortified wall, open gate, and towers signify town privileges, municipal autonomy, and security. The star represents the noble House of Sternberg, former lords of the domain, while the crescent reflects centuries-old local heraldic and sigillographic tradition dating back to early municipal seals.
