About the place: Boom is a Belgian town and municipality located in the province of Antwerp in Flanders, along the river Rupel. It is well known for its brickmaking heritage and as the host location for Tomorrowland, one of the world's largest electronic music festivals.
Flag Description: The flag consists of two vertical stripes, blue on the left side from the viewer's perspective (heraldic dexter) and white on the right side (heraldic sinister). In the upper part of the blue stripe, there is a white shield depicting the Virgin Mary with the Infant Jesus standing in front of a green tree, wearing a blue cloak studded with gold stars and holding a golden scepter with a lily.
Symbolism: Blue and white are the traditional colors of the municipality of Boom. The municipal shield placed in the upper portion of the blue vertical stripe features a canting element—a tree (Dutch 'boom' means tree)—in front of which stands the Virgin Mary with the Infant Jesus, the patron of the local parish church and traditional protector of the town.
