About the place: Brakel is a historic town located in the Höxter district within the Teutoburg Forest / Eggegebirge Nature Park in eastern North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

Flag Description: The flag consists of two horizontal stripes, green on top and white on the bottom, with an aspect ratio of 1:2. In the hoist side (left side from the viewer's perspective), the city coat of arms is placed across both stripes. The coat of arms depicts a white Gothic gate with two spired towers and a triangular gable in the center on a red shield. In front of the gate is a small inescutcheon with green and white vertical pales, topped with a red fess bearing three golden (yellow) balls.

Symbolism: Green and white are the traditional town colors. The red shield with the white gate symbolizes the city rights and fortifications of Brakel. The small inescutcheon in the foreground derives from the historical coat of arms of the Lords of Brakel.
