Summary

About the place: Břežany is a municipality and village in the Znojmo District within the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic, located in the fertile lowlands of the Thaya-Schwarza Vale about 25 km east of Znojmo. The village is known for its Baroque chateau and long-standing viticultural and agricultural heritage.

Flag Description: A blue field with a hoist stripe chequered in black and yellow (in two vertical rows of eight squares) one-sixth of the flag's length wide. In the blue field, a white bird with red beak and claws stands on an isolated yellow mount of three coupeaux, accompanied in the upper fly corner by a yellow rose seeded red and barbed green. The ratio of the flag is 2:3.

Symbolism: The white bird on the triple mount is derived from the village's oldest preserved seal dating back to 1687. The golden rose commemorates the noble family of Čertorejský of Čertorej and reflects historical floral seal motifs. The black-and-yellow chequered stripe at the hoist references the Counts of Breuner, prominent historical feudal lords of the estate. The blue and yellow colours also underline regional and Moravian connections.
