Summary

About the place: Březina is a municipality in the Rokycany District in the Plzeň Region of the Czech Republic, situated approximately 7 km north of Rokycany. The village is notable for its Empire-style chateau of the Sternberg family, the ruins of a medieval castle, and an important early medieval Slavic hillfort on Hradiště hill.

Flag Description: The flag consists of two horizontal stripes of blue and white, and a fly-end embattled stripe horizontally divided white and blue, one-third of the flag's length wide, with five square teeth (merlons) and four equal indentations (embrasures). In the hoist and central portion of the field is an eight-pointed star horizontally divided yellow and green, with a height of thirteen-fifteenths of the flag's width. The width-to-length ratio is 2 : 3.

Symbolism: The eight-pointed star is derived from the arms of the Sternberg family, who owned the Březina estate and counted among them Count Kaspar Maria von Sternberg, a prominent botanist, paleontologist, and co-founder of the National Museum in Prague. The yellow-and-green division reflects light, prosperity, and the surrounding woods and nature. The embattled teeth represent defensive fortifications, referencing the local medieval castle ruins and the ancient Slavic hillfort on Hradiště hill. Blue and white represent the tinctures of the municipal coat of arms.
