Summary
About the place: Březno is a market town in the Mladá Boleslav District of the Central Bohemian Region, situated in the Jičín Uplands approximately 7 kilometres east of Mladá Boleslav along the Klenice stream. Comprising two parts (Březno and Dolánky), it is a pleasant rural settlement with documented origins dating back to the 13th century.
Flag Description: The flag consists of two horizontal stripes, red and white, in a width ratio of 7 : 3. Issuant from the white stripe is a white lion with yellow claws and tongue (armed yellow), holding with its left forepaw a yellow staff bearing a gonfalon per pale yellow and black with a yellow fly/tail. In the white stripe is a green two-leaved birch twig on a single stem. The ratio of width to length is 2 : 3.
Symbolism: The flag's design is derived from the municipal coat of arms granted in 2013 and reflects local history and the town's name. The red and white colours along with the issuant lion evoke the noble House of Markvartic, including the 13th-century founder Markvart II of Březno. The yellow-and-black gonfalon represents the Lords of Wartenberg, descendants of the Markvartic line and long-time holders of the estate. The green birch twig with two leaves on a single stem is a canting device for Březno (derived from 'bříza' – birch) and symbolizes the union of the two constituent parts of the municipality (Březno and Dolánky).
