Summary
About the place: Burg Stargard is a historic town in the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, located just south of Neubrandenburg. The town is famous for its well-preserved hilltop medieval castle, Stargard Castle.
Flag Description: The flag of the town consists of three vertical stripes of red, white, and red in proportions of 1:3:1. In the center of the wider white stripe is a red eagle with a yellow (golden) beak, tongue, and talons, facing left from the observer's perspective (heraldic right). The eagle occupies three-fifths of the height of the flag cloth. The aspect ratio of the flag is 3:2.
Symbolism: The red eagle in the white field is derived from the historic town coat of arms and represents the Brandenburg eagle, pointing to the period when the Lordship of Stargard was under the rule of the Margraviate of Brandenburg prior to the 1236 Treaty of Kremmen. The red and white color scheme reflects traditional regional colors.
