Symbolism: The flag's design directly derives from the municipal coat of arms granted by Emperor Rudolf II in 1580 upon the petition of Vratislav of Pernštejn. The dimidiated black wisent's (aurochs) head with a golden ring through its nostrils represents the ancestral arms of the noble House of Pernštejn, former lords of the domain, while the dimidiated black eagle represents the imperial eagle signifying royal grace and town status. The central blue vertical stripe symbolizes the Bystřice River.
