Summary
About the place: Bystřice pod Hostýnem is a Moravian town in the Kroměříž District of the Zlín Region, Czech Republic, situated at the foot of the Hostýn Hills beneath the prominent Marian pilgrimage site of Svatý Hostýn. It is widely renowned for its historic connection to the Rottal and Loudon noble families and its world-famous tradition of bentwood furniture manufacturing founded by Michael Thonet (now TON).
Flag Description: The flag of Bystřice pod Hostýnem features a field with an aspect ratio of 2:3 divided horizontally into five stripes: red, black, white, black, and white in a width ratio of 4:1:1:1:1. Centred in the upper wide red stripe is a white (silver) demi-goat rampant taken from the municipal coat of arms.
Symbolism: The flag is directly derived from the town's historical coat of arms, documented on municipal seals since the 17th century. The demi-goat rampant in the red field traditionally symbolises the foothill landscape and the historic pastoral heritage and goat farming of the Hostýn Hills, while the alternating black and white stripes replicate the triple black-and-silver partition of the lower half of the municipal shield. The flag was officially granted by the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic on 2 September 1994 (Decision No. 18).
