Summary

About the place: Chièvres is a historic Belgian city and municipality located in Wallonia, in the province of Hainaut. The town is known for its medieval heritage, including the Gailleroux tower, as well as the nearby military air base.

Flag Description: The flag is vertically divided into a red hoist stripe and a yellow fly stripe. In the red hoist field, there are three crowned yellow (golden) lions arranged 2 and 1. The two upper lions stand back-to-back, while the bottom lion faces towards the hoist (left from the viewer's perspective). The yellow fly stripe is plain.

Symbolism: The lions in the hoist section refer to the historic coat of arms of the Lords of Chièvres, who bore three golden crowned lions on a red field. Red and yellow are the traditional colors of the city and the surrounding region.
