Summary

About the place: Chodská Lhota (German: Melhut) is a municipality in the Domažlice District in the Plzeň Region of the Czech Republic, situated in the undulating landscape of the Chod region southeast of Kdyně. It is historically one of the eleven privileged border-guard villages of the Chods.

Flag Description: A yellow field with a black hoist stripe occupying one-third of the flag's length. Within the black stripe is a yellow wolf hook (wolfsangel) with its points facing toward the fly. In the yellow field is a black dog's head couped with a red tongue, placed over a black Chod čakan (axe) on a red haft bendwise. The ratio of width to length is 2:3.

Symbolism: The dog's head and the spiked axe (čakan) are iconic symbols of the Chod region and its free border guards (Psohlavci); Chodská Lhota is one of the eleven historical privileged Chod villages mentioned in the 1325 charter of King John of Bohemia. The yellow wolf hook (wolfsangel) in the black hoist stripe is derived from the ancestral arms of the Counts of Stadion, former lords of the Kout estate to which the village historically belonged.
