Summary
About the place: Chomutov is a statutory city in the Ústí nad Labem Region in the northwestern Czech Republic, situated at the foot of the Ore Mountains within the Most Basin. Historically an industrial and trading hub, it is a prominent regional transport junction known for unique natural sites such as the Kamencové Lake (Alum Lake) and Bezruč Valley.
Flag Description: The flag consists of two equal horizontal stripes of white over blue. In the center of the sheet is the municipal coat of arms: on a blue shield, a silver ashlar wall with battlements flanked by two silver square embattled towers. The width-to-length ratio of the flag is 2:3.
Symbolism: The white and blue colors are derived directly from the tinctures of the municipal coat of arms, confirmed in 1457 by King Ladislaus the Posthumous (following an earlier grant dating back to 1396). The silver crenellated wall with watchtowers signifies municipal privileges, strength, defense, and self-governance, while the blue tincture traditionally represents steadfastness, loyalty, and the region's waters.
