Summary

About the place: Chrudim is a historic town in Eastern Bohemia in the Pardubice Region, situated on the Chrudimka River at the transition between the Elbe Lowland and the Iron Mountains. As the second-largest town in the region, it is well known for its rich cultural heritage, notably its puppetry traditions.

Flag Description: The flag of Chrudim consists of a rectangular field with a 2:3 aspect ratio, divided into three vertical stripes of black, white, and red. Centered on the middle white stripe is a black eagle with red armament (beak and talons) and a red tongue.

Symbolism: The municipal flag, officially adopted in 1992, is directly derived from the town's historic coat of arms, which traces its lineage to the ancient ducal arms of the Czech Přemyslid dynasty (the black St. Wenceslas eagle on a silver field). The vertical stripes reflect the armorial tinctures: black and white (silver) from the eagle and the shield, and red from the eagle's armament and tongue.
