Summary

About the place: Chvalovice is a small rural municipality in the Prachatice District of the South Bohemian Region, located in the Bohemian Forest Foothills about 5 km southeast of Netolice and 18 km east of Prachatice. The village traces its origins back to the 13th century and sits at an altitude of approximately 465 metres above sea level.

Flag Description: Vertically divided into two stripes of blue and red with an aspect ratio of 2:3. Centred on the flag are two crossed yellow barley ears, accompanied above by a yellow crown, on the flanks by two pendant yellow hop cones, and below by crossed white mining hammers on yellow handles.

Symbolism: The golden crown refers to the Cistercian monastery of Zlatá Koruna and to King Ottokar II of Bohemia, who donated the village to the abbey in 1263. The crossed barley ears and hop cones commemorate the local agrarian tradition and the brewing rights granted in 1533 by John III of Rosenberg. The mining hammers represent the prominent historical graphite mining industry that operated here from the late 19th century until 1959. The blue and red colors reflect the historical authority of the Zlatá Koruna monastery and the House of Rosenberg.
