Summary

About the place: Chýnov is a historic town in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, situated in Tábor District about 11 km east of Tábor. With roots dating back to a 10th-century early medieval stronghold, the town is widely known for the nearby Chýnov Cave and the villa of prominent sculptor František Bílek.

Flag Description: The flag of Chýnov has an aspect ratio of 2:3 and features a square hoist field and a fly section. The red hoist field bears two crossed yellow Gothic keys with wards facing outward and upward. The fly section consists of five horizontal stripes alternating blue and white (three blue and two white).

Symbolism: The flag (granted on April 3, 1996) is derived from the historic municipal coat of arms granted in 1904 by Emperor Franz Joseph I based on a design by historian August Sedláček. The crossed golden Gothic keys in the red field symbolize the historic ownership by the Prague bishopric and archbishopric, which held Chýnov from 1250. The five alternating blue and white stripes in the fly section are drawn from the blue-and-silver striped small shield in the municipal arms, commemorating former noble lords of the estate.
