Summary

About the place: Cítov is a municipality in the Mělník District of the Central Bohemian Region, situated in the fertile Podřipsko agricultural lowland roughly 8 km west of Mělník. Comprising the villages of Cítov and Daminěves, its prominent historical landmarks include the Church of Saint Leonard and Cítov Chateau.

Flag Description: The flag consists of two vertical stripes of blue and red. Centred is a rampant white unicorn with yellow attires (armament), accompanied beneath its forelegs by an affronty yellow lion's face (lion mask). The ratio of the flag's width to its length is 2:3.

Symbolism: The rampant white unicorn references the noble Běškovec of Běškovice family and the 13th-century knight Smil of Cítov, who co-founded the Augustinian monastery in nearby Pšovka (whose historical convent seal also bore a unicorn). The affronty yellow lion's face (lion mask) commemorates medieval lords styling themselves after Cítov, who used a lion in their heraldry. The blue and red colors reflect the historical tinctures associated with the former holders of the domain.
