Summary
Delfzijl is a city in the province of Groningen, Netherlands, now part of the municipality of Eemsdelta. Historically it developed around a sluice connecting the Delf canal with the Ems River and became a fortified settlement in the 16th century. Today it is the fifth largest seaport in the Netherlands and the main port of the North East region.
