Des Moines, Iowa

Des Moines is the capital city of the U.S. state of Iowa, located at the confluence of the Des Moines and Raccoon Rivers. Founded as Fort Des Moines in 1851, it was renamed in 1857 after the nearby river whose name derives from French meaning "River of the Monks." The city serves as a regional hub for insurance, finance, and publishing industries.
