Dijon is the prefecture of the Côte-d'Or department in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of eastern France. The city originated as the Roman settlement Divio on the road between Lyon and Paris and later became a seat of the Dukes of Burgundy. Its historic centre displays a mix of Capetian, Gothic and Renaissance architecture, famed for its polychrome Burgundian roofs.
