Summary
Diksmuide is a city and municipality in the West Flanders province of Belgium, situated near the River Yser. The settlement originated in the 9th‑century as Dicasmutha, a Frankish community at a river mouth, and later developed a fortified town with a charter in the 13th century. The surrounding polder landscape supports dairy farming, for which the area is renowned.
