Summary

About the place: Dobřany is a historic town in the Plzeň-South District of the Plzeň Region, located along the Radbuza River approximately 11 km southwest of Plzeň. It boasts a rich history closely tied to the Chotěšov Abbey and is well known for its historic psychiatric hospital complex founded in the late 19th century.

Flag Description: A flag with an aspect ratio of 2:3 consisting of three vertical stripes of white, blue, and white in a width ratio of 1:4:1, making the central blue stripe a square. Centred on the blue field is a white round embattled tower with three black windows (1, 2) and a red conical roof with a golden finial; an identical inverted red conical roof with a golden finial extends downwards from its base.

Symbolism: The flag (granted in 1995 by the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic) is derived from the historic coat of arms of Dobřany. The coat of arms features three silver towers on an azure field; the flag focuses on one of the distinctive round flanking towers with conical roofs and finials pointing both upward and downward from the base. The embattled tower represents municipal status, defense, and urban privileges, the blue background alludes to the Radbuza River and the heraldic field, white represents stone masonry, and red and gold signify prestige and architectural distinction.
