Summary

About the place: Dobrovice is a town in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, situated south of Mladá Boleslav in the fertile Elbe Lowlands. The town is historically notable as an industrial and agricultural hub, famous for housing the oldest operating sugar refinery in the Czech Republic, established in 1831.

Flag Description: The flag consists of two horizontal stripes of yellow and red. In the upper hoist corner is a blue lion with red armament. The width-to-length ratio is 2:3.

Symbolism: The flag's colors and charges are derived from the historic municipal coat of arms and the armorial bearings of the House of Waldstein (Valdštejn), who ruled the estate and elevated Dobrovice to a market town in 1558. The yellow and red stripes reflect the primary tinctures of the town's shield (golden fortified walls and towers on a red field). The blue lion in the upper hoist is taken directly from the Waldstein quarterly inescutcheon (quartered or and azure with lions of counterchanged tinctures), which is placed centrally on the town's coat of arms.
