Summary
About the place: Doksany is a municipality in Litoměřice District in the Ústí nad Labem Region of the Czech Republic, situated in the fertile lowlands on the right bank of the Ohře River. It is renowned primarily for the extensive complex of its historic Premonstratensian nunnery founded in the 12th century and as a notable meteorological observatory.
Flag Description: The flag consists of two vertical stripes in the hoist half, blue and red, in a width ratio of 1 : 5, and seven alternating horizontal stripes of blue and white in the fly half. Attached to the blue hoist stripe within the red stripe is a hoist semicircular blue field charged with a yellow crown accompanied above and below by a yellow fleur-de-lis. The ratio of hoist width to length is 2 : 3.
Symbolism: The flag's symbolism is derived from the municipality's heritage and its Premonstratensian convent. The crown and fleurs-de-lis recall the royal founders (Bohemian Duke and King Vladislaus II and his wife Gertrude of Babenberg) as well as the Marian dedication of the convent's Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary (fleurs-de-lis symbolizing purity and the Virgin). The seven blue and white horizontal stripes represent the Ohře River and the wavy base of the municipal coat of arms, while blue and red reflect historical monastic and municipal heraldic tinctures.
