Summary
About the place: Dolní Lánov is a village and municipality in the Trutnov District of the Hradec Králové Region in the Czech Republic, situated in the Giant Mountains foothills along the Malé Labe River southeast of Vrchlabí. It is primarily a rural and residential submontane settlement.
Flag Description: The flag consists of four horizontal stripes: white, green, wavy white with three crests and two troughs, and wavy green, in a width ratio of 3:1:1:1. In the hoist half of the upper white stripe, a blacksmith turned towards the fly, dressed in blue with a black apron and tall black boots, pierces an upright black bear with red claws and tongue using a red spear; between them below lies a red horseshoe. The ratio of the flag's width to length is 2:3.
Symbolism: The scene depicting a blacksmith slaying a bear stems from a local 16th-century legend about a brave ironworker defending his home against a marauding bear during a severe winter; the motif appeared on historical seals and honors the local heritage of iron ore processing and water-powered hammer mills along the valley. The horseshoe further denotes the blacksmithing craft. The wavy stripes represent the Malé Labe River, while the green and white colors symbolize the surrounding nature of the Krkonoše foothills and pristine waters.
