Summary

About the place: Eckenhagen is a village and former municipality in the Oberbergischer Kreis district, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Since 1969, it has been part of the municipality of Reichshof and is known for attractions such as its monkey and bird park.

Flag Description: The flag is designed as a vertical banner (Hängeflagge). The top section (banner head) consists of a red field containing the coat of arms. The shield is divided horizontally: the upper silver (white) field depicts a red passat lion with blue claws and tongue, while the lower green field shows three golden (yellow) oak trees growing on a triple hill. The lower part of the banner consists of two vertical stripes: yellow on the left (viewer's perspective) and green on the right.

Symbolism: The red lion in the upper field of the coat of arms represents the historic Counts of Berg (Bergisch Lion) who held sovereignty over the area. The three oak trees on a green field symbolize the wooded landscape of the Bergisches Land region and the local topography. The yellow and green vertical stripes in the lower part correspond to the primary colors of the lower shield field.
