Étampes

Étampes is a sub‑prefecture commune in the Essonne department, part of the Paris metropolitan area in northern France. Located on the river Chalouette, a tributary of the Juine, it was founded in the early 7th century and hosted several medieval councils, notably the 1130 council that confirmed Pope Innocent II. Landmarks include the ruined Tour Guinette built by Louis VI and the 11th‑12th‑century Notre‑Dame du Fort church.
