Summary

About the place: Fonyód is a town and popular resort on the southern shore of Lake Balaton in western Hungary. Located in Somogy County, it offers scenic views across the lake to the volcanic hills of the northern shore.

Flag Description: The flag consists of two horizontal stripes, blue on top and yellow at the bottom. In the center of the flag is the town's coat of arms: a blue shield displaying a silver sailboat sailing on wavy water. Above the shield is a golden helmet surmounted by a crest of a bird (eagle or falcon) with outstretched wings. The shield is surrounded by elaborate mantling – blue and silver on the left side from the viewer's perspective, and red, gold, and blue on the right side. Beneath the coat of arms, centered in the lower yellow stripe, is the black inscription FONYÓD.

Symbolism: The blue and yellow colors reference Hungarian traditions and the aquatic environment of Lake Balaton. The sailboat on wavy waters symbolizes the town's position on the shores of Balaton, its nautical heritage, and the importance of tourism and recreation. The helmet with a bird crest and mantling derives from the historical heraldry of Somogy County.
