Summary

About the place: Frýdek-Místek is a statutory city in the Moravian-Silesian Region, situated at the confluence of the Ostravice and Morávka rivers on the historical border between Moravia (Místek) and Silesia (Frýdek). It serves as an important industrial, cultural, and administrative center at the foothills of the Beskids.

Flag Description: A quartered flag with an aspect ratio of 2:3, repeating the city's coat of arms. In the first and fourth blue quarters is the dexter half of a golden eagle with red weaponry, adjoining a silver (white) uppercase letter "F". In the second and third white (silver) quarters are two crossed black ragged staves (bear-poles) each having six lopped branches, accompanied by three red roses (arranged one above two).

Symbolism: The symbolism of the flag reflects the 1943 unification of two historically separate towns. The first and fourth quarters represent Silesian Frýdek via the golden Upper Silesian/Cieszyn eagle on azure (recalling the Duchy of Teschen) adjoined by the city's initial letter "F". The second and third quarters represent Moravian Místek, bearing the ragged staves and roses from the arms of Stanislaus Thurzo, Bishop of Olomouc, under whose tenure Místek received significant town privileges.
