Summary
About the place: Gégény is a village in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County in eastern Hungary. It is situated in the flat landscape of the Tiszahát region near the town of Kemecse.
Flag Description: A vertical white flag bordered by an alternating green and red wolf-tooth (flammulet) fringe along all edges. In the center of the flag is the municipal coat of arms, surmounted by the inscription "GÉGÉNY" in golden letters. The shield is divided horizontally into a blue upper field and a green base. The blue field features a white church with a red spire, flanked on the observer's left (heraldic dexter) by a golden eight-pointed star and on the right (heraldic sinister) by a golden crescent moon. The green base contains a silver coulter surrounded by a bulrush stalk and an ear of wheat.
Symbolism: The red and green wolf-teeth border forms a traditional Hungarian vexillological motif in the national colors. The church in the blue field represents the local architectural landmark and spiritual heritage, while the star and crescent are historical symbols of faith and guidance. The coulter, ear of wheat, and bulrush in the green base symbolize the village's agricultural roots, soil fertility, and natural marshland environment.
