Summary

About the place: Hajdúszoboszló is a famous spa town located in the northeastern part of the Great Hungarian Plain in Hajdú-Bihar County, Hungary. It is renowned for its extensive thermal baths and rich Hajduk history.

Flag Description: The flag of Hajdúszoboszló consists of a horizontal bicolour with two equal bands: light blue on top and white on the bottom. In the centre of the flag is the full coat of arms of the town. The emblem features a blue shield with a green base depicting a spotted beast (leopard or lion) wielding a sabre fighting a knight in armour on a white horse holding a sword and shield. Above the shield rests a helmet with a crown, blue-gold and red-silver mantling, and a crest showing a rising spotted beast holding a small shield and a red pennant with a black eagle.

Symbolism: The blue and white colours are traditional colours of the town. The coat of arms recalls the military history and Hajduk traditions of the region, originating from the privileges granted to the Hajduks by Stephen Bocskai in the early 17th century. The combat motifs and knight symbolize courage and defense of the homeland.
