Summary

About the place: Havraníky is a wine-growing municipality in the Znojmo District of the South Moravian Region, Czech Republic, located approximately 7 km southwest of Znojmo on the edge of the Podyjí National Park. It is renowned for its longstanding viticultural heritage, protected heathlands, and picturesque location along the Czech-Austrian border.

Flag Description: A white field with a green horizontal stripe along the bottom edge, one-eighth of the hoist width wide. In the center is a red anchor cross (Latin cross anchored) terminating at the bottom in a red six-pointed star. The cross is flanked in chief by two black ravens facing each other, and in base by a red grape bunch hanging towards the fly on a green stem with a leaf and tendril emerging from the green stripe at the hoist side, and a red vine knife (pruning billhook) with a green handle, blade facing the hoist, at the fly side. The ratio of the flag width to length is 2:3.

Symbolism: The black ravens serve as canting charges referencing the name of the municipality (from Czech 'havran' meaning raven). The red anchored cross coupled with the six-pointed star represents the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star, a religious military order that held estates and acted as feudal lord of the village since the 16th century. The grape bunch, pruning knife (billhook), and green stripe represent the centuries-old tradition of viticulture and the fertile landscape.
