Summary
About the place: Heřmanice is a municipality in the Náchod District of the Hradec Králové Region, situated in the upper Elbe river valley north of Jaroměř. Comprising four local parts, it is widely known as the birthplace of the imperial generalissimo Albrecht von Wallenstein.
Flag Description: A flag of two horizontal stripes, blue over red, with a width-to-length ratio of 2:3. In the blue stripe is a yellow passant lioness with red armament. In the red stripe is a white hoist-side pall (fork) with arms one-tenth of the flag's width issuing from the upper and lower hoist corners of the stripe, accompanied in the fly half by four (2, 2) white chamomile blossoms with yellow centers.
Symbolism: The golden passant lioness in the blue field is derived from the ancestral arms of the Markvartic dynasty, forebears of the House of Waldstein, honoring the local birth of Albrecht von Wallenstein. The white pall (fork) symbolizes the Elbe River, local confluences, and the historic ford reflected in the name of the settlement Brod nad Labem. The four chamomile blossoms serve as canting arms (derived from the Czech word heřmánek for chamomile) and represent the municipality's four constituent parts (Heřmanice, Brod, Běluň, and Slotov).
