Summary

About the place: Herzberg am Harz is a town in the district of Göttingen, Lower Saxony, Germany, situated at the southern edge of the Harz mountain range.

Flag Description: The flag consists of a horizontal bicolour of yellow over blue with a ratio of 3:5. In the centre sits the coat of arms of the town. The shield is per pale; on the dexter side (left from the viewer's perspective) in a blue field is a golden lion with red claws and tongue facing sinister, and on the sinister side (right from the viewer's perspective) in a golden field is a red rearing hart facing dexter.

Symbolism: The flag colors (yellow and blue) derive from the traditional colors of the city and the former Welf principality. The golden lion on a blue field refers to the Welf rulers (Brunswick-Lüneburg) who held Herzberg Castle. The red hart on a golden field represents the Counts of Klettenberg and the surrounding forested Harz region.
