Herzogenrath

Herzogenrath is a municipality in the district of Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, located on the border with the Netherlands. The town originated in the 11th century as the settlement Rode near the river Wurm and later became known as 's‑Hertogenrade under the Duchy of Brabant. Throughout history it changed hands among Spanish, Austrian, French and Prussian authorities before becoming part of modern Germany.
