Summary

About the place: Hlinsko is a town in the Chrudim District of the Pardubice Region, situated along the Chrudimka River at the junction of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands and the Iron Mountains. It is known for its rich craft and folklore heritage, notably the Betlém folk architecture conservation area.

Flag Description: Three vertical stripes of white, red, and white in the width ratio of 1:3:1. In the center of the red stripe is the forepart of a walking white horse with blue bridle. The ratio of the flag's width to length is 2:3.

Symbolism: The forepart of a silver/white horse with blue bridle on a red field is derived from the historic coat of arms of the Lords of Pardubice, feudal rulers of the Rychmburk estate who supported Hlinsko's elevation to a town in the 14th century. Unlike the leaping demi-horse of Pardubice, Hlinsko's horse is depicted as walking (passant). The motif is tied to the Bohemian legend of warrior Ješek at the Siege of Milan in 1158; the red and white flag stripes reflect the heraldic tinctures.
