Summary

Hlukhiv is a historic city in Sumy Oblast of northeastern Ukraine, situated on the Esman River. First mentioned in chronicles in 1152, it later belonged to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Polish‑Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Cossack Hetmanate. The city served as a capital of the Hetmanate after the deposition of Ivan Mazepa in the early 18th century.
