Summary

About the place: Hodonín is a district town in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic, situated on the right bank of the Morava River near the border with Slovakia. It is an important industrial and cultural hub of the Slovácko region and the birthplace of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, the first president of Czechoslovakia.

Flag Description: The blue flag is divided horizontally by a narrow white horizontal stripe into two equal blue fields. In the upper blue field, on the left side from the observer's perspective (heraldic dexter), is a yellow double-crossed (patriarchal) cross. On the right side of the upper field (heraldic sinister), two crossed keys—the left one yellow (gold) and the right one white (silver)—are depicted, underlaid by a horizontal yellow sword with its point pointing to the left from the observer's view. In the lower blue field, a yellow bell is centered.

Symbolism: The blue color and white stripe symbolize the Morava River, on whose banks the town is situated. The yellow patriarchal cross refers to the Saints Cyril and Methodius tradition of the region. The crossed keys with a sword represent the heraldic attributes of Saints Peter and Paul, commemorating the dedication of the local church. The yellow bell in the lower field symbolizes historical campanological or religious heritage and cultural landmarks.
