Summary
About the place: Hodonín is a district town in the South Moravian Region of the southeastern Czech Republic, situated in the Moravian Slovakia cultural region on the right bank of the Morava River along the border with Slovakia. It is widely known as the birthplace of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, the first president of Czechoslovakia, and as a regional center of wine-making and folklore.
Flag Description: The flag consists of three horizontal stripes of blue, white, and blue in a width ratio of 1:2:1. In the center of the wider white stripe is a red six-petaled rose with a yellow seed/center. The flag width-to-length ratio is 2:3.
Symbolism: The flag is derived directly from the municipal coat of arms, which depicts an angel in a blue field holding a silver inescutcheon bearing a red rose. The blue and white stripes reflect the tinctures of the shield and inescutcheon. The red six-petaled rose has been the historic emblem of Hodonín since at least the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, appearing on ancient town seals.
