Summary
Hoegaarden is a municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant, Belgium, comprising the villages of Hoegaarden, Meldert and Outgaarden. The town originated in 981 and historically enjoyed tax privileges as an enclave of the Liège Prince-Bishopric, fostering a brewing tradition. After the French Revolution the tax advantage vanished, but the local white beer was revived in the mid‑20th century and gained international fame.
