Summary
About the place: Holubov is a municipality in the South Bohemian Region, Český Krumlov District, situated in the scenic foothills of the Bohemian Forest at the base of the Blanský Forest near Mount Kleť and the ruins of Dívčí Kámen Castle. It is renowned for its protected natural surroundings and historic railway viaduct spanning the Křemžský Stream.
Flag Description: The flag consists of a green hoist stripe occupying half the length of the sheet and two horizontal fly stripes, blue over white. Centred in the green hoist stripe is a white ashlar tower shown in side view with battlements, two gothic windows above, and a rectangular window and a gothic gate below, all openings black. In the upper blue fly stripe is an affronty ascending white dove with red beak and claws, and in the lower white fly stripe is a red five-petalled rose with a yellow seed and green sepals. The aspect ratio of the flag is 2:3.
Symbolism: The white ashlar tower in the green stripe represents the nearby historic ruins of Dívčí Kámen (Maidstein) Castle, while the green color symbolizes the surrounding wooded landscape of the Blanský Forest nature reserve. The ascending white dove is a canting charge directly referencing the name Holubov (from Czech 'holub', meaning dove/pigeon). The red five-petalled rose in the white stripe represents the House of Rosenberg (Rožmberk), who founded the castle and historically held the surrounding domain.
