Summary

About the place: Hořice (often known as Hořice v Podkrkonoší) is a town in the Jičín District of the Hradec Králové Region, situated at the southern foot of the Hořice Ridge. It is renowned for its historic stonemasonry and sculpture school, the traditional production of the sweet delicacy known as Hořice rolls (hořické trubičky), and the annual road motorcycle race "300 Curves of Gustav Havel".

Flag Description: A flag of five horizontal stripes of red, white, blue, white, and red in proportions 1:1:2:1:1. Charged on the central blue stripe are five contiguous yellow lozenges in fess, whose upper and lower vertices touch the edges of the blue stripe. The ratio of the flag's width to its length is 2:3.

Symbolism: The red and white stripes derive from the traditional Bohemian livery colors and reflect the town's historical coat of arms (a silver embattled wall with a tower on a red field). The five yellow (golden) lozenges on the blue stripe symbolize the town's famed heritage of sandstone quarrying, stonemasonry, and sculpture (representing cut and dressed stone blocks), while the central blue stripe provides heraldic contrast and represents local watercourses in the Krkonoše foothills.
