Summary

About the place: Hořiněves is a municipality in the Hradec Králové District of the Hradec Králové Region, situated in an agricultural landscape approximately 13 km north of Hradec Králové. It is notable as the birthplace of the writer and revivalist Václav Hanka and for its Baroque chateau.

Flag Description: The flag consists of three vertical stripes: white-and-red chequered (8 × 3), green bearing a white crozier head (crook curved towards the fly), and white, in a width ratio of 1 : 2 : 1. The hoist-to-fly width-to-length ratio is 2 : 3.

Symbolism: The white-and-red chequering is derived from the arms of the local gentry, the Lords Hořiněvský of Hořiněves, and also evokes the Czech national colours. The green field represents the rural character of the municipality, surrounding fields, meadows, and forests. The crozier head is an attribute of Saint Procopius and Saint Nicholas, the patrons of the local churches in Hořiněves and Žíželeves, while the white stripe completes the overall balanced composition.
